Asian mobile conference Focuses on mobile application development

The first ever Asian conference and workshop on mobile content aimed at developing mobile content to introduce content beneficial to the daily lives of people was held on June 10 and 11  in Colombo.

The importance of mobile phones is increasing and it is necessary to exploit the potential of mobile communication. The significant role played by mobile phones has made development drive forward.

According to Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) there will be a rapid increase in the number of people accessing internet through mobile phones in the next five years. There will be over one billion mobile phone users in the South Asian region in next 12 months. The mobile markets in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives would fuel this growth.

The conference and workshop will provide opportunity for Sri Lanka’s ICT enthusiasts for developing creative mobile content. “Creating rich mobile content has become the need of the hour in this sector. It is a huge industry and the country that is rich in technical talents and ICT skills have the potentiality for carving out a bright future in South Asia.

Most of the highly penetrated value added services are offered on mobile applications at present. However, the services such as forex information, breaking news alerts to cricket updates are limited as these are developed by a few. The opportunities for mobile application are immense starting from very simple applications to complex ones. It is right time that application development is promoted by opening the door to anyone who is interested in this sphere.
