Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka

Set up under the Information and Communication Technology Act, No. 27 of 2003 and strengthened by the ICT Amendment Act No. 33 of 2008, the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), functioning under the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology is the apex body responsible of implementing the e-Sri Lanka Development Initiative. The main thrust of ICTA is to set ICT policy as well as guide and direct national ICT development activities.

The ICTA has been at the helm of developing digital content and applications of benefit to Society. Following from ICTAs efforts there has been a heightened awareness on the development of web as well as mobile based content and applications. Projects from Sri Lanka have made its mark felt internationally with regional and world awards.

Over the past few years there has been a remarkable growth in the use of the mobile phone in the entire Asian region. In fact the mobile phone is today described as the fourth screen after the cinema and has been identified as an excellent platform through which to reach the masses.

In order to maintain this heightened interest on Mobile Communication Technology, as well as to create awareness amongst the general public, the ICTA has initiated the South Asian Mobile Conference.

The South Asian Mobile Conference

The South Asian Mobile Conference was launched in 2010 in celebration of the one billion mobile users across the South Asian Region.
